Twitter Partners with Variety on New Project to Track Trending Film Engagement

Selecting a movie to watch at any given time may be the most first-world problem that exists right now, but Twitter and Variety have launched a new initiative to address it. The ‘Variety Film Chart Chatter’, which uses Twitter discussion data to monitor the top five trending movies at any one moment, was introduced by Variety and Twitter, as you can see in the chart.

According to Twitter:

“Variety Film Chart Chatter, driven by Twitter, examines the top five movies trending on Twitter this week and the movies that have received the most discussion overall. Fans can keep up with the most noteworthy and well-liked movies of the season by checking out the charts, including expert analysis of the top films’ week-to-week movement and a heat map monitoring talks around the nation.

For each of the top movies, the new initiative includes an engagement chart to see which are receiving the most mentions, in addition to the standard listing, Twitter says. Once again, it’s a very first-world issue, but it is an issue, nevertheless. The largest obstacle is often finding anything worthwhile to watch, despite the multitude of alternatives provided by Netflix, Disney+, etc. It’s possible that keeping up with the newest, popular movies might help to relieve this problem, at least in some ways.

Additionally, it might be useful for market research and incorporating your content into hot topics. If there is a relevant angle for your brand that links to one of the most popular movies, that might help to strengthen your brand messaging and keep you in people’s minds through your posts and updates. Or it can just be a useful addition to your entertainment choices.
